    خیلی با آنچه امروز می‌بینیم فرق داشت

    البته فیلم‌نامه را آقای ارسیا تقوا
    هم خواندند، با یک روان‌کاو فرانسوی هم مشورت کردم و تحقیقاتی هم کردم که از نظر پزشکی غلط نداشته باشد.
    مثلا فهمیدم یک‌سری سایت توی فرانسه برای
    فتیش‌ها، کفش دست‌دوم می‌فروشند و با سرزدن به این سایت متوجه
    شدم که برای آنها هرچه کفش کهنه‌تر باشد ارزش بیشتری دارد.
    این فیلم در اصل قرار بود بخشی از یک آنتولوژی باشد (فدریکو فلینی و ژول داسن در اصل به کار گرفته شده
    بودند تا صحنه‌های فراموش‌نشدنی‌ای

    «شمعون صحرا» در انتقادش از فداکاری مذهبی سخت و انعطاف‌ناپذیر است.
    حتی تا آنجا که نشان می‌دهد، انبوهی از پیروان نسبت به معجزه‌های سایمون
    بی‌علاقه می‌شوند. بونوئل با هنرمندی تعدادی تصاویر
    سورئال درست از شیطان می‌سازد و فیلم را با یک صحنه نابه‌هنگام (که شامل موسیقی راک
    معاصر است) به پایان می‌برد. اگر تاکنون
    با روش های دیگر پزشکی و روانشناسی و

    پدوفیل های شکارچی ممکن
    است از زورگویی یا تهدید به افشا برای
    تداوم سوء استفاده خود استفاده کنند.
    پزشکان و سایر کارکنان بهداشتی از لحاظ قانونی موظفند که چنین سوءاستفاده هایی از افراد صغیر را گزارش کنند.
    این فعالیت نوعی تجاوز هم محسوب می شود و محکومیت های سنگینی به دنبال دارد.

    سورین (با بازی کاترین دنو) یک زن خانه‌دار فرانسوی است که در مورد سناریوهای سادومازوخیسم خیال‌پردازی می‌کند؛ آن‌ها در تقابل با ناتوانی وی از صمیمیت با همسرش، پیر (با بازی ژان
    سورل) هستند. در نتیجه این کسالت خانگی، او مشغول به کار کردن برای مادام آناس (با بازی ژنویو پژ) در یک روسپی‌خانه
    می‌شود. «عصر طلایی» از یک ساختار روایی سست برای گفتن داستان دو عاشق که در تلاش
    برای به کمال رساندن رابطه‌شان هستند، استفاده می‌کند.

    در حالی که پلیس تلاش می‌کند، بفهمد چرا این گروه در عمارت به دام افتاده است (پلیس به دلیل نیروی نامرئی قادر به ورود به این عمارت نیست) این گروه تلاش می‌کند
    راهی برای ترک زندان عجیب‌وغریب خود بیابد.
    از همان سکانس آغازینش از پا، تا تصویر ذهنی فرانسیسکو از کلیسایی که همه
    به او می‌خندند، «ال» یک شاهکار در
    بین فیلم‌های سایکوسکچوال است.

    این فیلم به طرز درخشانی مفاهیم بحران‌های مرد
    و پارانویا را به تصویر می‌کشد؛ مردی را نشان می‌دهد که در وسواس‌های هذیان خود گم شده است.

    ژاک لاکان «ال» را در سخنرانی‌های معروف خود گنجانید و از
    این فیلم به عنوان ابزاری برای توضیح ایده‌های نظری خود استفاده کرد.
    فیلم براساس اصول ژانری بازی می‌کند و پرتره‌ای از تمدن
    “وارونه” خلق می‌کند که در طول
    زمان از دست رفته است. در یک نقطه،
    بونوئل حتی با فیلم‌برداری از یک بز خارج
    از کوه، پا را فراتر از مرزهای یک مستند وفادار می‌گذارد و
    با نمایش این صحنه “اثبات” می‌کند که این منطقه
    کوهستانی خطرناک است.
    پدرو نازاریو (با بازی فرانسیسکو رابال) سرسپردگی
    وسواس‌گونه‌ای نسبت به ایمانش دارد.
    فاحشه‌ای به نام آندارا (با بازی ریتا ماسه‌دو) بعد از کشتن یک
    فاحشه، برای پناه گرفتن التماس می‌کند.
    آندارا و همسایه نازاریو، بئاتریز (با بازی مارگا لوپز) خودشان را وقف نازاریو می‌کنند چراکه
    معتقدند او به کار معجزه مشغول است.
    این سه نفر شهر خود را ترک می‌کنند و از شهری به شهر دیگر سفر می‌کنند و کشف می‌کنند که تقوی آن‌ها لزوماً باب میل سایر
    نقاط جهان نیست. فیلم در یک سبک اسپرپنتو
    پی‌ریزی شده است و یک گروتسک معوج از کاراکترها و وقایع را به
    منظور نقد انجمن‌های اجتماعی ارائه می‌دهد.
    بونوئل همچنین اظهار داشته
    ‌است که مریم باکره (با بازی ادیت اسکوب) یکی از معدود کاراکترهایی است که قادر به فرار از انتقاد اجتماعی/ مذهبی بونوئل به خاطر خلوص و آرامشش بوده است.
